The first school I went to was Mt.Tabor Elementary. It was a one-room school, all grades were in the same room, 1st grade through 8th grade. I remember a teacher there, her name was Mrs. Carr, she took me under her wing; now that I look back at that, she did that because I was being bullied, yes even then in the 60's, bullies were among the schools.
The second school I went to was Crescent Elementary, I was only there a short time before we moved. The next school was Silvia Elementary, I stayed in that school until I went to Stratton Jr. High and from there, Woodrow Wilson High school
Girls wore dresses all the time until my last year of Jr high then we could wear pant suits. In high school, we could wear pants but no jeans. School wasn't always easy for me. I didn't have the support that I needed until I was in High School. I had a favorite teacher in High School her name was Mrs. Cook, and she was the home economics teacher..
I don't remember a lot about school except knew I had to survive and get through.

My first school was first grade at Crescent Elementary in Beckley, WV. Way back then in 1958, we didn’t have Kindergarten or pre-school.
My first-grade teacher and favorite was Mrs. Mabe. I knew her before starting school because she was also my Sunday School teacher before, during, and after first grade. She was a loving and caring person both in and out of school. That’s why I remember her today.
